Manchester Aquatics Centre Meets 2015

30 Sep, 2014

This was handed out to all coaches / team managers at the recent meet in Wigan.

To all swimmers, coaches and parents,

We are SORRY to inform you that unfortunately we have been unable to book the Manchester Aquatic Centre for any competitions in 2015. In recent years, the Associations of Bolton and District, Central Lancs and Manchester and District have hosted the very popular age group competition in January.

There is now a “committee” that makes decisions on pool bookings and they have decided that they do not wish to host the type of competition we run for our many associated clubs. We first asked to book the pool in January 2014 and had to wait until July 2014 for their reply. In the meantime, we also asked for dates for the Autumn Meet 2015, this was also refused. We have tried to speak to this “committee” and have been told that the chairman would contact us. This has not happened.

We are now trying to find a venue and a suitable date for next years’ competitions and will keep you all informed of our progress.

Our competitions target the ‘grass roots’ swimmers and last year over 500 of them were able to enjoy the competitions we offered at the Manchester Aquatic Centre. We understood that the pool at Manchester would be a legacy for all from the 2002 Commonwealth Games. Clearly our swimmers are not now allowed to enjoy this facility and benefit from the legacy. In the mean time, should you wish to complain on behalf of your association/club/swimmers, then could we suggest a letter to any or all of the following:

Manchester City Council
Your MP
Your local Councillor
Manchester University
Manchester Aquatic Centre
ASA
Sport England

We hope you enjoy the Greater Manchester Autumn Meet this year which is being held at the Wigan Pool. Due to shortage of space on the poolside the programme is shorter than last year’s competition which was held at the Manchester Aquatic Centre. However we are delighted to report that there have been no rejections from the competition.

Central Lancs
Bolton and District

Home Gala at Dukinfield Marlins next week

26 Sep, 2014

Dear Members, Parents and Carers,

Dukinfield Marlins’ Junior League squad are in action next Friday evening in their final gala of the season. The gala takes place at Dukinfield Pool next Friday, October 3rd and as a result, all lessons and normal squad training are cancelled for next Friday.

On previous occasions, we have invited children who attend Friday lessons to come along on a Thursday that week instead so that they don’t miss out on their lesson. The option to do this has not yet been confirmed but we will let you all know as soon as possible if we can accept Friday’s children next Thursday, due to the gala.

Friday lessons return to normal on October 10th.

We have booked the date and venue for our Annual Presentation Evening. Once again, further details and tickets will be available very soon but the date is Saturday, January 10th at 7:30pm. The venue is the Masonic Hall, Dukinfield on Old Road. It’s always a great evening and a fabulous celebration of your children’s achievements over the past 12 months! Trophies, certificates and medals won at the Annual Gala are also presented on this very special evening!

If anyone has any trophies awarded at the previous Presentation Evening, this is a message to let you know we will be collecting those back in during October and November. Please make every effort to ensure that the club has the trophies back by November 29th, the date of the Annual Gala, so that we have enough time to get them to the engravers ready for the next set of Champions!
