This was handed out to all coaches / team managers at the recent meet in Wigan.
To all swimmers, coaches and parents,
We are SORRY to inform you that unfortunately we have been unable to book the Manchester Aquatic Centre for any competitions in 2015. In recent years, the Associations of Bolton and District, Central Lancs and Manchester and District have hosted the very popular age group competition in January.
There is now a “committee” that makes decisions on pool bookings and they have decided that they do not wish to host the type of competition we run for our many associated clubs. We first asked to book the pool in January 2014 and had to wait until July 2014 for their reply. In the meantime, we also asked for dates for the Autumn Meet 2015, this was also refused. We have tried to speak to this “committee” and have been told that the chairman would contact us. This has not happened.
We are now trying to find a venue and a suitable date for next years’ competitions and will keep you all informed of our progress.
Our competitions target the ‘grass roots’ swimmers and last year over 500 of them were able to enjoy the competitions we offered at the Manchester Aquatic Centre. We understood that the pool at Manchester would be a legacy for all from the 2002 Commonwealth Games. Clearly our swimmers are not now allowed to enjoy this facility and benefit from the legacy. In the mean time, should you wish to complain on behalf of your association/club/swimmers, then could we suggest a letter to any or all of the following:
Manchester City Council
Your local Councillor
Manchester Aquatic Centre
We hope you enjoy the Greater Manchester Autumn Meet this year which is being held at the Wigan Pool. Due to shortage of space on the poolside the programme is shorter than last year’s competition which was held at the Manchester Aquatic Centre. However we are delighted to report that there have been no rejections from the competition.
